I am fascinated by Modern Grifters and scam artists. In an age where (it seems) so easy to check that someone is who they say they are, I always wonder how they get away with what they do for so long? Is it a sense of entitlement? A form of mental illness? A natural predisposition to manipulate others? When the scams are high enough level is it simply playing the part and "money calling to money"?
Anna Delvey [aka Anna Sorkin] is (according to Wikipedia):
" ..a Russian-German woman who was involved in the socialite scene in Manhattan. In 2017, she was arrested on six charges of grand larceny for allegedly scamming wealthy New York City business acquaintances and several hotels."
- Anna Delvey
Delvey's fraudulent activities may have cost her victims in excess of $275,000, and is awaiting sentencing sometime during September 2018. The Variety story paints a picture of a women who didn't' really seem to be enjoying any of her ill gotten gains. Constantly looking over her shoulder and even when confronted with evidence of her lies, simply daisy-chaining more blatant lies to cover up her schemes.
